UPDATE: Police investigating shooting in Phillipsburg, 1 arrested

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ (Warren County) – Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Phillipsburg on Friday morning, with one individual arrested in connection to the incident.

On Friday, March 28, at approximately 5:45 a.m., police responded to the area of Spruce Alley after receiving an alert from Phillipsburg’s ShotSpotter. Upon arrival, officers found multiple bullet casings in the alley and several bullet holes on the exterior of a residence. No injuries were reported.

During the investigation, officers discovered that Akil Gilbert, of Easton, who was present inside the residence, was in illegal possession of a 9mm Hi-Point handgun and a high-capacity magazine. He was subsequently arrested and lodged in the Warren County Correctional Center.

At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that the firearm possessed by Gilbert was involved in the shooting.

The investigation is being conducted by the Phillipsburg Police Department, with assistance from the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Warren County Regional Crime Scene Unit, and the New Jersey State Police.
