USPS Operation Santa opens for 2025, encourages public to adopt family letters
NEW JERSEY — The U.S. Postal Service announced Monday that USPS Operation Santa is officially open for letter adoption for the 2025 holiday season. Individuals, families, workplaces and community groups can visit USPSOperationSanta.com to adopt letters to Santa and help brighten the holidays for children and families nationwide.
This year, USPS is placing a special emphasis on adopting family letters — including offering a new team-based feature that allows groups to fulfill all letters from the same household together.
“We invite the public to join us in spreading holiday cheer by adopting a USPS Operation Santa letter,” said Sheila Holman, the Postal Service’s vice president of marketing. “Every year, we receive far more letters than those adopting. So if you have the means, we encourage you to adopt a letter. And this year we’re making it easier for groups to adopt family letters — making the holidays brighter for everyone in a household. And they’re fun and easy to complete with friends or coworkers.”
Letter Adoption Now Open
Those wishing to adopt can follow these steps at USPSOperationSanta.com:
- Create a login and verify identity
- Browse letters from across the country
- Adopt individual or family letters
- Shop for gifts through Santa’s Work Shoppe or independently
- Ship gifts right away online or at a Post Office
- USPS recommends shipping gifts no later than Dec. 13 to ensure delivery in time for the holidays.
Adopt Family Letters as a Team
The Postal Service is highlighting a feature that allows groups to collaborate on completing letters from the same household:
- One person creates a team and invites others
- Team members select individual letters from the same family
- All letters must be adopted, with the team admin able to claim any unassigned letters
The option is designed for workplaces, community groups, and organizations looking to make a larger impact.
Santa’s Gift Shoppe Returns
Santa’s Gift Shoppe — powered by Toys“R”Us — is back with an expanded selection of gifts. Adopters can ship items directly from the online catalog, simplifying the process with free shipping on orders over $49.
“We want to make it as easy as possible to participate,” Holman said. “You can adopt single or family letters as a team, shop for the perfect gift quickly and easily online, and get it delivered directly from Santa’s Gift Shoppe… And the earlier you adopt, the sooner you can help make somebody’s holiday wish come true.”
