Video: Man deliberately drives into a home and crashes into a police station in Warren County

WARREN COUNTY, NJ – A Warren County man deliberately drove his vehicle into a home and then into the independence Township Police Department earlier this month, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

On Sept. 20, at around 6:17 p.m., John Hargreaves, 34, of Belvidere deliberately crashed his gold Toyota SUV into the garage door of a private residence in an attempt to scare or harass the homeowner, who the defendant knew, authorities said.

The Hargreaves drove to the nearest police station, which was the Independence Township Police Department, and intentionally drove his vehicle through building causing significant damage. The entire vehicle came to a final resting point in the squad room, the prosecutor’s office said.

Hargreaves then exited the vehicle and appeared to be celebrating as he was apprehended by officers on scene as his car stereo blared the song “Welcome to the Jungle,” authorities said.

Hargreaves was charged in the first incident with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree harassment. In the second incident, he was charged with first-degree terrorism, second-degree causing widespread injury or damage, fourth-degree aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree criminal mischief.

Hargreaves remains lodged in the Warren County Jail pending detention motions in Warren County Superior Court.
