Volunteers clear trash along Tamarack Road in Liberty Township
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A group of community volunteers spent Sunday cleaning up Tamarack Road and the surrounding area near Mountain Lake Bog, collecting 13 bags of garbage as part of an effort organized by the Mountain Lake Community Association, according to a post on the group’s Facebook page.
The cleanup covered the entire length of Tamarack Road, where volunteers found a large amount of litter — particularly along the slope on the west side of the road, bordering the east side of the bog. The association noted that many of the cans and bottles appeared to have been dragged into the area by bears that had rummaged through unsecured garbage and recycling bins.
“It goes to show why it’s so important to keep garbage and recycling bins well secured at all times,” the post read.
Volunteers also discovered signs of illegal dumping, along with debris that appeared to have been there for years. While the group made significant progress, they plan to return next year to complete the cleanup.
The association thanked participants Bob, Nancy, Patty, James, BJ, Alice, Rob, and Jessica, who took the photo of the event, as well as the Mountain Lake Fire Company (72 Fire) for providing the dumpster used to dispose of the collected waste.
“Our community is a lot cleaner today thanks to the efforts of a group of volunteers from the Mountain Lake Community Association,” the post said.
