Warren County fire department receives $14,800 Norfolk Southern grant to fund rescue air bag system and advanced training

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — The Washington Township Fire Department announced it has been awarded $14,800 from Norfolk Southern through the company’s Safety First Grant Program, funding that will support new rescue equipment and advanced training for firefighters.

The department said the grant will be used to purchase a Rescue Air Bag System and provide members with enhanced vehicle rescue training, as well as heavy lifting and moving training.

“The WTFD is proud to announce that our department has received $14,800.00 from Norfolk Southern through its Safety First Grant Program,” the department said in a statement. “The funding will be used to purchase a Rescue Air Bag System and provide advanced Vehicle Rescue Training as well as Heavy Lifting and Moving Training for our members.”

The Safety First Grant Program is part of Norfolk Southern’s effort to advance community safety across its 22-state network by supporting first responders, preparedness initiatives and safety education.

According to Norfolk Southern, “The Safety First Grant Program is designed to promote overall community safety across Norfolk Southern’s 22-state network. This program is intended to support organizations that directly provide safety services or operate programs that promote safe behavior.”

The company said it values its relationship with emergency personnel. “Norfolk Southern values its relationship with first responders and established the Safety-First program, in part, to recognize and support such groups.”

The fire department thanked Norfolk Southern for its support, noting the grant will strengthen emergency response capabilities. “Thank you, Norfolk Southern, for helping us create a stronger, safer, and more resilient community,” the department said.
