Warren County hosts Revolutionary War “Tavern Talk” at Invertase Brewing

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — Warren County welcomed Revolution NJ to Invertase Brewing Company on Sunday for a “Tavern Talk,” an interactive program that brought participants face-to-face with the past.

The event seated participants at tables with friends and strangers, leaving one chair open for a reenactor. Using a handbook with program goals, guiding questions and historical context, participants engaged with reenactors portraying real-life individuals from the colonial and Revolutionary War eras. Reenactors rotated through tables in a historical “speed dating” format, offering different perspectives and experiences.

Warren County Commissioners James R. Kern III and Lori Ciesla took part in the program, along with former Freeholder Rick Gardner and residents from across the county.

“I’d like to thank RevolutionNJ, Invertase, and the reenactors for making this event possible,” Commissioner Ciesla said. “It was a fun and educational afternoon that let residents engage with our history in a hands-on way that you don’t often get,” she added.

Invertase Brewing Company is one of the stops on the Warren County Grains and Grapes Trail. “Tavern Talk – A Revolutionary Experience” was presented as part of Warren County’s bicentennial celebration, which also includes this Sunday’s Museum and Rev War Day with the 2nd New Jersey Regiment, Helms’ Company, at Shippen Manor and the Explore Warren History Trail weekend Nov. 1-2.

Revolution NJ is a partnership between the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the New Jersey Department of State, and the nonprofit Crossroads of the American Revolution Association. The initiative is planning the state’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
