
Warren County man charged with sexual assault of child
POHATCONG TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A 49-year-old Pohatcong man has been arrested and charged following an investigation into the reported sexual assault of an 8-year-old child, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
Peter Santiago was taken into custody Tuesday, March 16, following the investigation. Authorities said he was known to the victim.
Santiago is charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, three counts of second-degree sexual assault, and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Center pending an initial appearance in Superior Court.
If convicted, Santiago could face a sentence ranging from 25 years to life in state prison under the Jessica Lunsford Act. He would also be subject to Megan’s Law registration requirements and parole supervision for life, officials said. Second-degree charges carry a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The investigation was conducted by the Warren County Special Victims Unit and the Pohatcong Township Police Department.
