Warren, Sussex, Hunterdon and Morris counties receive local bridge grants
TRENTON, N.J. — The Sherrill administration announced $44 million in fiscal year 2026 Local Bridges Fund grants to help counties repair, reconstruct and replace local bridges.
The 33 grants will support bridge projects across New Jersey, including projects in Warren, Sussex, Hunterdon and Morris counties.
“Keeping our infrastructure in a state of good repair is critical to the safety, reliability and capability of our transportation system,” NJDOT Commissioner Priya Jain said. “The NJDOT’s Local Bridge Fund supports the Department’s state of good repair goal, by providing counties with the resources needed to make critical bridge improvements. These investments are just one example of the Sherrill Administration’s commitment to bolstering our transportation network and its daily users.”
The Local Bridges Fund is supported through the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund. Each county receives $1 million, with additional funding distributed through a formula based on total county bridge deck area and the amount of deck area considered in poor condition.
Local grants include:
- Warren County: $1,485,976 for scour protection measures at eligible scour-critical bridge structures in Blairstown, Franklin, Hardwick, Hope, Knowlton, Lopatcong, Pohatcong, Washington and White townships.
- Sussex County: $1,467,033 for replacement of Bridge S-26 in Stillwater Township.
- Hunterdon County: $500,000 each for replacement of bridges R-168, R-124 and R-170 in Readington Township, and $289,681 for replacement of Bridge WE-74 in East Amwell and West Amwell townships.
- Morris County: $366,828 for replacement of the Old Bloomfield Avenue Bridge in Montville Township, $927,592 for replacement of Bridge No. 1400-567 on White Bridge Road in Long Hill Township, and $786,223 for replacement of Bridge No. 1400-132 on Carey Avenue in Butler Borough.
A complete list of fiscal year 2026 county allocations and project awards can be found on the NJDOT website.
Since the program was created in 2009, 637 bridges have been improved through Local Bridges Fund grants, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The grants are administered by the NJDOT Division of Local Aid and Economic Development and evaluated by the Division of Bridge Engineering and Infrastructure Management.
