Watch: Officer saves unconscious driver from burning car after crash with diesel tanker in Somerset County
BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – A police officer rescued a driver from a burning car following a crash in Bridgewater Township on Wednesday morning.
On March 5, at around 2:11 a.m., Officer Noah Allatt of the Bridgewater Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a diesel tanker truck and a passenger sedan. The sedan had crashed into the rear of the truck, causing both vehicles to catch fire, police said.
Upon arrival, Officer Allatt discovered the unconscious driver of the sedan still in the car. Without hesitation, he sprang into action, reaching into the vehicle to pull the driver to safety and dragging him away from the burning wreckage just moments before the situation could have turned fatal, police said.
“We would like to take this opportunity to highlight the incredible actions of Officer Allatt,” read a post on the Bridgewater Township Police Department’s Facebook page. “Officer Allatt showed bravery, strength, and composure throughout the duration of the call. His swift actions saved the life of the driver. A job well done.”
The post continued, “The Bridgewater Police Department plays a vital role in maintaining safety and order in the community, no matter the time of day. Our constant presence, whether during the day or night, helps ensure that our community feels safe and supported.”
