Welfare check leads to DWI arrest in Warren County
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A New York man is facing several charges following a welfare check Tuesday afternoon in Hackettstown.
On July 16, at around 5:36 p.m., police received a 9-1-1 call to do a welfare check on a male who was possibly intoxicated after he was allegedly seen stumble into his silver Tesla, and was observed drinking shooters inside his vehicle outside the QuickChek on Main Street, police said.
An officer who was directing traffic at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Main Street from a DWI crash involving a FedEx truck that occurred earlier in the day, observed the Tesla go over the double yellow lines and then went back into the correct lane, police said.
The officer then stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Michael S. Diskin of Brooklyn, police said.
While the officer was speaking with Diskin, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage, police said.
Diskin was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit a chemical breath test, careless driving, revocation, for refusal to submit a chemical breath test, and disregard marked lanes. He was released pending a court appearance, police said.
