West Amwell Fire Company celebrates 75 years of service to the community

WEST AMWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The West Amwell Fire Company marked its 75th anniversary on Saturday with a celebration honoring its decades of service and dedication to the community.

Hunterdon County Commissioner Zach Rich joined the event, presenting a proclamation on behalf of the county commissioner board to recognize the fire company’s long-standing commitment to fire protection and rescue services.

“For 75 years, the West Amwell Fire Company has stood as a pillar of strength and resilience,” Rich said. “I would like to thank the men and women of the WAFC for their commitment and selfless service in protecting lives and property. Their sacrifices do not go unnoticed, and today we celebrate their lasting impact on the safety and well-being of our residents.”

Founded in the late 1940s, the fire company began as a small group of volunteers and has grown into a modern department with two stations. Its fleet includes a ladder truck, engines, rescue vehicles, brush trucks and watercraft to support fire suppression and rescue operations across West Amwell Township and parts of Delaware Township.

Rich, a longtime West Amwell resident, praised the department’s dedication and noted its members’ deep connections to the community.

“These are not just first responders — they are neighbors, friends and the heart of this township,” he said.

The celebration featured tributes, shared stories and a reaffirmation of the fire company’s mission. The Hunterdon County Commissioner Board congratulated the fire company’s members, past and present, on the milestone.
