Woman charged after allegedly striking two pedestrians with vehicle in Sussex County
FRANKLIN BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — A woman has been charged with multiple offenses after allegedly striking two pedestrians with her vehicle in what authorities say appeared to be an intentional act.
Yesenia M. Garcia, 48, of Franklin, was arrested on the morning of July 2 following a crash in the parking lot of Sterling Plaza in Franklin Borough, police said Wednesday.
Investigators determined that Garcia was acquainted with one of the pedestrians and that the collision appeared deliberate. She was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with two counts of third-degree aggravated assault by auto, two counts of fourth-degree endangering the welfare of another, and fourth-degree criminal mischief. She was also issued several motor vehicle summonses and released pending a court appearance in Sussex County Superior Court, in accordance with the New Jersey Bail Reform Act.
Both victims were evaluated and treated by emergency medical personnel at the scene and later released.
