
Woman charged after heroin, crack cocaine found during Sussex County traffic stop
FRANKLIN BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Hardyston woman was arrested after a traffic stop in Franklin Borough led to the discovery of suspected heroin and crack cocaine packaged for distribution, police said.
On Oct. 17, 2025, officers stopped a vehicle in Franklin Borough and developed reason to believe the driver, Amanda J. Smith, 30, was allegedly in possession of controlled dangerous substances, according to police.
A search of the vehicle, assisted by the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, uncovered suspected heroin and crack cocaine packaged in a manner consistent with distribution. Police said assistance was also provided by the Franklin Police Department and the Vernon Township Police Department during the investigation.
Smith was charged with third-degree possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, third-degree possession of heroin, third-degree possession of crack cocaine, and failure to make lawful disposition of a controlled dangerous substance.
She was also issued several motor vehicle summonses related to narcotics possession in a vehicle.
Smith was lodged at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending her first appearance before the Sussex County Superior Court, in accordance with the New Jersey Bail Reform Act.
