Woman charged with drug possession after being found slumped over in vehicle in Hackettstown

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — A Mansfield Township woman was arrested after police found her slumped over in her vehicle Thursday evening with drugs and paraphernalia in plain view, authorities said.

Hackettstown police responded at about 7:39 p.m. Oct. 2 to the intersection of Route 46 and East Plane Street after receiving a report of a woman slumped over in her vehicle while holding a pipe.

Officers located the woman, identified as Mary K. McCrystal, 36, in the driver’s seat. Police said they observed a glass pipe with residue and a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance on the driver’s seat between her legs. Officers woke McCrystal by tapping on the window.

During the investigation, McCrystal was found to be in possession of suspected heroin, police said. She was arrested and charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McCrystal also received motor vehicle summonses for driving while suspended, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, and having an open or unsealed container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

She was released pending a court appearance, police said.
