Woman charged with DWI, assault by auto after hit-and-run crash in Somerset County

PEAPACK & GLADSTONE BOROUGH, NJ (Somerset County) – A  Somerset County w0man is facing drunk driving and assault by auto charges after a hit-and-run crash last week in Peapack & Gladstone Borough, according to Peapack & Gladstone Police Chief Stephen C. Ferrante.

On Wednesday, July 17, at 10:09 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle that was struck on Route 206 North near the Delta Gas Station, Ferrante said.

Once on scene, officers and emergency medical personnel found a 37-year-old woman who was trapped inside her 2020 Cadillac XT6. The victim was extricated from her vehicle by the Peapack & Gladstone Fire Dept. and evaluated by members of the Peapack – Gladstone First Aid Squad, Ferrante said.

The victim was treated at the scene and later declined to be transported to the hospital, Ferrante said.

The initial investigation revealed that the fleeing vehicle had lost its front left drivers side wheel along with other vehicle parts, which were located on scene. Hours later, members of the Warren Township Police Department located the involved vehicle, a 2005 Chevy Corvette, parked in their jurisdiction, Ferrante said.

The operator of the vehicle, who was identified as Jessica M. Bryan, 54, of Branchburg Township, was arrested for DWI by the Warren Township Police Department, Ferrante said.

After a further investigation, Bryan was charged by the Peapack & Gladstone Police with fourth-degree assault by auto, fourth-degree driving while suspended due to a second or subsequent DWI, leaving the scene of a crash, failure to report a crash, reckless driving, driving while suspended, failure to maintain lane, improper passing, and operating an unsafe vehicle, Ferrante said.

Bryan was released on her own recognizance pending a court appearance, Ferrante said.
