Woman seriously injured in Route 46 crash in Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A 70-year-old woman was seriously injured early Thursday when her SUV collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 46, police said.

The crash occurred around 5:27 a.m. Sept. 25 near the Kia dealership, according to the Mount Olive Police Department. Officers determined a tractor-trailer was backing into a business to make a delivery when a 2014 Toyota RAV4, traveling east with the right of way, struck the truck.

The driver of the Toyota became trapped in the vehicle after the collision. Members of the Budd Lake Fire Department extricated her, and she was transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

Route 46 was closed in both directions for about four hours while investigators examined the scene.

Assisting at the crash were the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section, Budd Lake Fire Department, Flanders Fire Department, Atlantic EMS, St. Clare’s Paramedics, and the New Jersey State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit.
