17-year-old charged with DWI after Route 31 traffic stop in Hunterdon County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A 17-year-old from Bridgewater has been charged with driving while intoxicated after a Clinton Township police officer stopped him for speeding earlier this month, authorities said.

According to the Clinton Township Police Department, on Oct. 12, 2025, an officer stationed on Route 31 North near Route 513 saw a gray Honda traveling south at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop in the parking lot of McDonald’s on Route 31, where the driver was identified as a 17-year-old male from Bridgewater.

Police said the driver showed signs of impairment and was asked to participate in cognitive and psychophysical tests. After the tests, he was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. The vehicle was impounded, and the driver was taken to police headquarters for processing.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and careless driving, police said. His name was not released. The teen received copies of his charges and was released to the custody of a responsible adult pending a scheduled court date.
