2 charged in shoplifting investigation at Warren County Wawa

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — Two people were charged following an investigation into multiple alleged shoplifting incidents at a Wawa in Hackettstown, according to police.

Hackettstown police responded to Wawa on Mountain Avenue at about 5:14 p.m. Aug. 5 for a report of multiple shoplifting incidents that allegedly occurred over the previous two days.

Police said an investigation determined that on Aug. 3 and Aug. 4, two people allegedly used the self-checkout to pay for smaller-sized fountain drinks while taking larger-sized drinks. During one of the incidents, an additional food item was allegedly taken without being paid for, police said.

Through surveillance footage, transaction receipts and further investigation, police identified the two as Jasmine Martinez, 18, and Hailie Lopez, 21, both of Washington.

Martinez and Lopez responded to Hackettstown Police Headquarters on Aug. 6 and were each charged with shoplifting.

Both were released pending a court appearance.
