BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Two Connecticut residents sustained serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash early Tuesday on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County, according to New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 12:55 a.m. on Interstate 78 West near milepost 11.0 in Bethlehem Township.

State police said a preliminary investigation determined a Ford SUV and a Toyota passenger vehicle were traveling westbound when the Toyota struck the rear of the Ford.

Police said the Toyota became disabled in the roadway and was then struck from behind by a Honda passenger vehicle.

The driver of the Toyota, Giuseppe Bastone, 21, of East Haven, Connecticut, and a passenger, Ellena Galdenzi, 20, of Bradford, Connecticut, suffered serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital, according to state police.

Authorities said the driver and passenger of the Honda sustained moderate injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information was released.
