Warren County man leaves car partially in roadway after running out of gas, returns in Uber with gas can; charged with DWI
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Warren County man who left his car partially in the roadway after running out of gas and then returned in an Uber with a gas can was charged with driving while intoxicated in Hackettstown early Tuesday morning.
On Oct. 22, at around 5:08 a.m., a police officer observed a vehicle in the northbound lane of Willow Grove Street, positioned halfway over the solid white fog line, creating a traffic hazard. The vehicle was unoccupied, and the officer noted the presence of empty Coors Banquet beer bottles in the back, police said.
Attempts to contact the vehicle’s owner at their residence were unsuccessful. While the officer awaited a tow truck, an Uber driver arrived with the vehicle’s driver, identified as William D. Ramos, 27, of Independence Township. According to police, Ramos returned with a gas can after reportedly running out of gas.
A further investigation revealed that Ramos was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. As a result, he was charged with driving while intoxicated and improper parking. Ramos has been released pending a court appearance, police said.
