Sussex County man allegedly spits on EMTs, threatens cops
BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man was arrested on several charges last month after he allegedly threatened police officers and spit on emergency medical technicians in Byram Township.
On Nov. 28, police responded to a report of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance on Route 206. The suspect, later identified as Donald M. Busteed Jr., 42, of Andover was seen walking in the roadway and exhibiting erratic behavior. When officers arrived on scene, Busteed appeared under the influence of alcohol or drugs and became increasingly agitated, police said.
As officers attempted to gather Busteed’s information, he became uncooperative, yelled profanities, and attempted to walk away. Officers informed Busteed that he was not free to leave and was being detained for further investigation. When Busteed attempted to leave the scene, he was placed in handcuffs, police said.
The Lakeland Emergency Squad was called to assist, and Busteed was escorted to the ambulance. However, he continued to act disorderly, threatening the officers and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). While inside the ambulance, Busteed spat on the EMTs, continued to use offensive language, and refused to cooperate with medical staff. He was transported to Newton Medical Center for further evaluation, police said.
Busteed has been charged with disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, and assault on a police officer or public employee. He is scheduled for a mandatory court appearance at the Andover Joint Municipal Court.
