Active shooter response training held for Morris County residents
RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) – The Randolph Township Police Department, in partnership with the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, hosted an active shooter response training event for local residents on Monday, May 19.
The training was held at the Randolph Community Center and drew attendees from various houses of worship throughout Morris County.
The symposium, developed by NJOHSP, focused on educating attendees about the evolution of active shooter events and reviewing tactics used in past incidents. The training emphasized the Department of Homeland Security’s “Run, Hide, Fight” strategy and provided guidance on how to determine the best course of action during an active shooter situation.
Speakers included Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and Patrick Owens, Morris County’s critical infrastructure coordinator. They discussed the availability of Vulnerability Risk Assessments for houses of worship, best practices for security and emergency preparedness, and the importance of planning ahead for special events. Attendees were also informed about state and federal grant opportunities to support security initiatives.
Following the presentations, community members had the opportunity to connect with law enforcement officials and ask questions.
