Man arrested on warrants, heroin possession after traffic stop in Morris County

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A 35-year-old Long Valley man was arrested late Monday after police said he was found with heroin and had two active warrants during a traffic stop on Route 46 in Mount Olive Township.

The stop occurred around 11:20 p.m. Sept. 8 near the Days Inn, when police observed a Toyota Sienna fail to keep right and maintain its lane.

A backseat passenger, identified as Andrew A. Brown, 35, was not wearing a seatbelt, police said. A records check showed he had two active N.C.I.C. warrants out of Morris and Sussex counties.

Brown was asked to step out of the vehicle, and during a search, police said they found wax folds of suspected heroin and a rolled dollar bill containing residue.

He was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of paraphernalia and failure to wear a seatbelt. Brown was later turned over to the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department on the outstanding warrant.
