Horse rescued from pond after coordinated response in Somerset County

BEDMINSTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — Fire crews and specialized rescue teams successfully freed a horse from a Bedminster Township pond Thursday after responding to an animal rescue call, according to the Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched for a report of a horse stuck in a pond. Upon arrival, the incident commander requested specific mutual aid companies equipped with animal rescue capabilities.

The fire chief and assistant chief worked alongside the horse’s owner, the veterinarian, the farm owners and technical rescue specialists from both the Somerset County and Hunterdon County Offices of Emergency Management.

The combined teams were able to safely extricate the horse from the water, the department said in a statement.
