Hiker rescued from Morris County trail after multi-agency response
MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A hiker was safely rescued from a remote trail in the Dismal Harmony area of Mendham Township on Saturday after multiple agencies worked together to reach and transport the injured individual, according to the Mendham Township Police Department.
Police said patrol units were dispatched to the park for a first aid call involving a hiker located roughly a mile into the trail system. Due to the distance and challenging terrain, officers requested additional resources to assist with reaching the patient.
With support from the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, which brought an ATV to the scene, responders were able to access the hiker and begin transport. Along the way, members of the Brookside Fire Department cut down several trees and fallen logs blocking the path to the Mendham Township First Aid Squad.
“It was truly a joint effort of all available resources to safely get the patient the help they needed,” the department said in a statement, offering “BIG thanks” to the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Brookside Engine Company 1, the Mendham Township First Aid Squad and medics from Atlantic Health.
Police did not release additional details about the hiker’s condition.
