Holland Township receives $555,000 in federal funding to renovate police headquarters

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Holland Township will receive $555,000 in federal funding to modernize its police department headquarters, an investment aimed at improving working conditions for officers and expanding community engagement, officials announced.

U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. said the funding was secured through the fiscal year 2026 Community Project Funding process and will be used to renovate the township’s police headquarters, which was originally built in 1976.

At the time the building was constructed, the police department employed four officers and handled far fewer service calls. Today, the department has grown to 14 officers and responded to 5,648 service calls in 2023, officials said. The current facility lacks adequate office space, locker rooms and processing areas, limiting the department’s ability to operate efficiently.

Planned renovations include interior and exterior upgrades to meet modern law enforcement standards, along with the addition of processing areas and enhanced security features. Township officials said the updated headquarters will also serve as a hub for community meetings, educational programs and outreach efforts.

“The over $500,000 in federal funding for Holland Township will enable police officers to finally have the tools and space they need to effectively protect and serve the community,” said Kean. “Holland’s police headquarters has not been properly upgraded in nearly 50 years, and these officers are responding to over 5,000 calls a year in a building designed for a fraction of that demand. Investing in our police infrastructure means investing in public safety and the well-being of the entire Holland community.”

State Sen. Douglas Steinhardt said the project reflects collaboration among different levels of government.

“This funding is a strong example of what can be accomplished when federal, state, and local leaders work together,” Steinhardt said. “Holland Township’s police officers deserve modern facilities that allow them to do their jobs safely and effectively, and this investment will help ensure they have the resources they need to serve the community.”

Hunterdon County Sheriff Fred Brown said the upgrades will improve operations and public safety.

“These upgrades will have a real and lasting impact on officer readiness, coordination, and community engagement,” Brown said. “By modernizing police facilities and expanding capacity, this funding helps ensure law enforcement can meet today’s demands while continuing to provide the high level of service our residents expect. We are grateful to Congressman Kean for prioritizing public safety across our municipalities.”

Since taking office, Kean has secured more than $12 million in Community Project Funding for police departments across New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. All 15 projects allocated to Kean for the fiscal year 2026 funding cycle have passed the U.S. House of Representatives.
