Paid summer employment program for Sussex County teens accepting applications
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — A limited number of Sussex County teenagers can apply for a paid summer employment and training program at Project Self-Sufficiency, officials announced.
The Summer Youth Employment Program will run Monday through Thursday from July 6 through Aug. 6 and is open to rising high school sophomores and juniors in Sussex County. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements, including family income, school enrollment and transportation considerations, and will be evaluated through an application and interview process.
Participants will gain hands-on work experience performing tasks such as clerical work and landscaping on the Project Self-Sufficiency campus and at other locations. The program also includes daily classroom instruction focused on workplace skills, including resume writing, interview preparation and professional etiquette.
Free transportation to and from the program will be provided, and references from school staff are required. Students who have previously participated in the program are not eligible to reapply. Officials said space is limited and applications must be submitted by June 12.
“For many of these young people, the Summer Youth Employment Program is their first workplace experience,” said Deborah Berry-Toon, executive director of Project Self-Sufficiency. “This program allows teens to explore their interests and aptitudes, introduces them to basic job skills, and gives them guidance about workplace expectations. The experience gives teens a foothold in the working world and often serves as a springboard into a future career.”
Applications are available online, and eligible applicants will be contacted to schedule interviews.
