Man sentenced to prison in Sussex County residential burglary case

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Queens, New York, man was sentenced Friday in Sussex County Superior Court in connection with a residential burglary in Montague Township, according to Sussex County Prosecutor Daniel M. Perez.

Jonathan Zambrano-Vanegas, 39, was sentenced May 8 by Superior Court Judge Janine M. Allen to four years in state prison.

Authorities said Zambrano-Vanegas received credit for 214 days already served in the Sussex County Jail.

He also was ordered to submit a DNA sample, pay $155 in mandatory fees and penalties, and pay $5,631 in restitution to the victim.

Zambrano-Vanegas previously pleaded guilty to second-degree residential burglary stemming from a February 2025 burglary and theft investigation conducted by the New Jersey State Police in Montague Township.

According to prosecutors, Zambrano-Vanegas admitted during his guilty plea to entering a residence without permission and stealing personal property.

The investigation was conducted by the New Jersey State Police.
