New Jersey begins second round of Stay NJ payments for eligible seniors
TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey has begun distributing the second round of Stay NJ property tax relief payments to eligible senior residents who qualified for the program during the 2024 tax year, state officials announced.
The state Treasury Department’s Division of Taxation said payments are being mailed to residents who applied through the PAS-1 combined application for Stay NJ, ANCHOR and Senior Freeze benefits.
Stay NJ payments are issued quarterly rather than as a single lump-sum payment. The first installment was distributed in February and averaged about $600 per recipient. Officials said the second installment averages $645.58.
The benefit amount is calculated using a formula based on a taxpayer’s property tax bill and eligibility for New Jersey’s other property tax relief programs, including ANCHOR and Senior Freeze.
Officials said eligible applicants previously received letters detailing the benefits they qualified for under each program. Depending on household income and eligibility requirements, residents may have qualified for one, two or all three programs.
Senior Freeze benefits for the 2024 tax year were distributed during summer 2025, while ANCHOR payments were issued in fall 2025.
State officials also reminded residents that the application period for the 2025 tax year is now underway. Eligible seniors and disabled residents can apply for property tax relief through the PAS-1 combined application available at propertytaxrelief.nj.gov.
The filing deadline for 2025 applications is Nov. 2, 2026.
The Treasury Department said property tax relief programs remain subject to annual state budget appropriations.
