2-alarm house fire damages Morris County home

MADISON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — Firefighters battled a second-alarm house fire Sunday evening after flames spread from a basement to upper floors of a home on Kings Road in Madison Borough, authorities said.

According to the Madison Fire Department, Morris County Communications received a 911 call reporting a basement fire at the residence around 7 p.m.

Fire crews arrived quickly and found the fire had extended beyond the basement into additional floors of the home, prompting a second alarm and a response from neighboring mutual aid departments.

Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the blaze within about 40 minutes of the initial dispatch, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby homes, officials said.

Crews then remained on scene conducting overhaul operations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Madison Fire Department and the Madison Police Department Detective Bureau in coordination with Morris County officials.

The Madison Police Department assisted with road closures, traffic control and scene safety during the incident.

Officials said the Madison Department of Public Works and Electric Department also responded to maintain water supply operations and disconnect electrical service to the residence.

Mutual aid assistance was provided by fire departments from Chatham Borough, Chatham Township, Florham Park, Morristown, Morris Plains, Morris Township and Whippany, along with Florham Park EMS.

The East Hanover and Summit fire departments provided station coverage during the incident, officials said.
