PossAbilities opens new thrift boutique in Mount Olive
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Community leaders, local officials and residents gathered Tuesday to celebrate the grand opening of the new PossAbilities Thrift Boutique on Naughright Road in Mount Olive Township.
The event began Tuesday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mount Olive Mayor Joe Nicastro, Assemblyman John DiMaio, Michelle Zychowski of Congressman Tom Kean Jr.’s office, Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce President Patricia Singer and WRNJ Radio’s Joyce Esty, along with other elected officials and community members.
During the ceremony, Zychowski presented a congressional recognition honoring PossAbilities for its service to the community and recognizing the opening of the organization’s third thrift store location within the congressional district.
Officials said the new boutique at 7 Naughright Road is intended to provide affordable shopping options while supporting programs and vocational opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
According to the organization, the PossAbilities Thrift Boutique concept began as a small store connected to its Phillipsburg day program and food pantry, where individuals receiving services assisted with organizing, cleaning and displaying merchandise.
As demand grew, the organization expanded into a larger Phillipsburg location in 2018 before opening a Flemington location in 2019. The new Mount Olive store marks the latest expansion of the nonprofit’s thrift boutique program.
PossAbilities said the stores serve a dual purpose by providing vocational training, career exploration and volunteer opportunities for people with disabilities while also offering affordable resale merchandise to local communities.
The organization currently operates locations in Phillipsburg, Flemington and Mount Olive.
