Memorial Day traffic crackdown in Morris, Warren counties leads to 3 arrests, more than 100 summonses
NORTHWEST, N.J. — A multi-agency Memorial Day weekend traffic enforcement initiative across Morris and Warren counties resulted in three arrests and more than 100 traffic summonses, according to authorities.
Police said 39 officers from seven law enforcement agencies participated in the high-visibility enforcement campaign aimed at reducing crashes and improving roadway safety during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.
The initiative included officers from the Mount Olive Township, Roxbury Township, Washington Township, Chester Township and Netcong police departments, along with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and the Hackettstown Police Department in Warren County.
Authorities said officers conducted 336 motor vehicle stops and issued 102 summonses for traffic-related violations, including speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving, seatbelt violations and driving while intoxicated.
Police said the enforcement efforts also led to three arrests, including two individuals wanted on outstanding NCIC warrants and one arrest for DWI.
“Memorial Day weekend historically sees increased traffic volume and a higher risk of serious crashes,” said Chief Michael Cordileone of the Mount Olive Township Police Department. “The collaborative efforts of these agencies helped increase roadway safety through proactive enforcement and visible police presence. We appreciate the hard work of all officers involved and the cooperation of the motoring public.”
Officials said the coordinated initiative was part of an ongoing effort among local agencies to reduce preventable crashes and encourage safe driving habits throughout the region.
The participating departments reminded motorists to obey speed limits, avoid distracted driving, never drive impaired and always wear seatbelts.
Police said the agencies remain committed to continuing regional partnerships focused on improving roadway safety throughout Morris County and surrounding communities.
