Morris County celebrates National Trails Day, highlights investment in Madison trail projects
MADISON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — Morris County officials joined local leaders and residents in Madison on Saturday to celebrate National Trails Day and highlight ongoing investments in the borough’s trail network.
Morris County Commissioner Director Stephen Shaw participated in a walk through Memorial Park alongside Madison Mayor Robert H. Conley, Councilwoman Melissa Honohan and other community members.
County officials said Madison has received nearly $583,000 through the Morris County Trail Construction Grant Program to support approximately 3.4 miles of trail development and design. Funded projects include improvements at Memorial Park, Summerhill Park and the Madison Recreation Center Accessible Trail.
The county’s Trail Construction Grant Program was established to expand recreational opportunities and improve access to outdoor spaces throughout Morris County.
Since 2016, the program has awarded more than $7.7 million for 69 trail-related projects in 32 municipalities. County officials said those projects are expected to create approximately 39 miles of trails countywide.
Officials said the investments are intended to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities, promote community connectivity and encourage residents to enjoy Morris County’s parks and natural resources.
