Man faces hindering, resisting charges after Sussex County traffic stop
FRANKLIN BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Hardyston Township man was arrested following a motor vehicle stop in Franklin Borough after authorities said he refused to identify himself and was found to have an outstanding warrant.
Shawn Gutschmidt, 43, was taken into custody on the morning of March 29 after a traffic stop led to an investigation that revealed an outstanding body warrant issued by the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department, according to police.
Authorities said Gutschmidt initially refused to identify himself or comply with officers’ orders during the stop. After he was positively identified, officers discovered the active warrant.
As a result of the investigation, Gutschmidt was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses and charged with hindering apprehension, resisting arrest and refusal to be fingerprinted, all disorderly persons offenses.
Following his arrest, Gutschmidt was issued a complaint summons and transferred to the custody of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department.
He is scheduled to appear in Passaic County Superior Court and Franklin Borough Municipal Court in accordance with New Jersey’s bail reform law.
