Police investigating social media report of man offering ride to child in Pequannock

PEQUANNOCK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Pequannock Township police said they are aware of a social media post reporting an incident involving a vehicle approaching a child who was walking alone.

According to the post, a blue, rusted van with no windows was being operated by a man in his 60s who asked a young female if she needed a ride.

Police said they cannot confirm the details of the incident because it has not yet been reported to the department.

The department’s juvenile officer has contacted the person who made the social media post and will follow up when they come to police headquarters to provide additional details.

Police urged residents to report suspicious incidents as they occur.

“We urge residents to always report suspicious incidents as they happen so that we can respond accordingly and conduct a thorough investigation,” the department said in a statement.

No additional information was released.
