NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Passaic County man was sentenced to six years in state prison after pleading guilty to cocaine distribution charges stemming from a Sussex County drug investigation, authorities said.
Jhovany Diaz-Ramirez, 26, of North Haledon, was sentenced July 22 by Superior Court Judge Michael C. Gaus at the Sussex County Courthouse, Sussex County Prosecutor Daniel M. Perez announced.
Diaz-Ramirez previously pleaded guilty to second-degree conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and third-degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance.
Authorities said the charges stemmed from investigations conducted by the New Jersey State Police and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force into drug distribution activity in Sussex County during the fall of 2024 and winter of 2025.
As part of his guilty plea, Diaz-Ramirez admitted to distributing cocaine in Wantage Township and conspiring with others to distribute cocaine in Newton, prosecutors said.
In addition to the six-year prison sentence, Diaz-Ramirez received credit for 359 days already served in the Sussex County jail. He also was ordered to submit a DNA sample and pay $1,330 in mandatory fines and penalties.
Perez recognized the New Jersey State Police Strategic Investigations Unit and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force for their work on the investigation.
