Cardiac arrest survivor reunites with first responders who saved his life
WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Whitehouse Rescue Squad reunited Friday night with a cardiac arrest survivor from a soccer game earlier this year, celebrating his recovery and the teamwork that saved his life.
Robert, who went into cardiac arrest during a match at Summer Road Park in August, returned to the squad’s station to thank the first responders and bystanders who helped resuscitate him. He and his family brought food to share with the emergency crews, making for what the squad described as an emotional and humbling evening.
According to the Whitehouse Rescue Squad, Robert’s life was saved thanks to the swift response of several trained bystanders — including retired law enforcement officers, nurses, and a commercial airline pilot — who immediately began CPR and rescue breaths before Readington Police Officers Ramos and Donovan arrived to deliver the first automated external defibrillator (AED) shock.

Whitehouse Rescue Captain Waseleski and Firefighter/EMT Levison continued CPR and administered a second AED shock, at which point Robert regained a pulse and began breathing on his own. Hunterdon County Communications and Hunterdon Health MICU also provided critical support during the rescue.
“This was an incredible team effort from start to finish,” the squad said in a statement. “It’s a powerful reminder of how important it is to learn CPR — every second counts.”
The Whitehouse Rescue Squad encouraged residents to take CPR training, emphasizing that early intervention in emergencies can mean the difference between life and death.
