Injured bald eagle found in Sussex County after possible collision with electrical wire
SPARTA TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — An injured bald eagle found in a Sparta parking lot is recovering at the Raptor Trust after being rescued and transported for treatment, according to Sparta police.
A concerned citizen contacted the Sparta Police Department at about 6:33 a.m. July 30 to report an injured bald eagle near 27 West Shore Trail.
Patrol Officer Kyle Stoll responded and found the eagle in a parking lot, police said. Stoll contacted Animal Control Officer Don Critchlaw, who responded to the scene and secured the bird for transport to the Raptor Trust for evaluation and treatment.
Police said it is believed the bird may have collided with an electrical wire and injured its wing.
The eagle remains at the Raptor Trust, where it is recovering and receiving care, according to police.
The Sparta Police Department said it is hopeful the eagle will make a full recovery and eventually be released back into the wild.
Police thanked the resident who reported the injured bird and Critchlaw for safely rescuing and transporting the eagle for treatment.
