Tractor-trailer overturns in Hunterdon County traffic circle, prompting hazmat response

FLEMINGTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A tractor-trailer carrying containers of diesel exhaust fluid overturned Thursday afternoon on the Route 202/31 traffic circle in Flemington Borough, prompting a response from the Hunterdon County Hazmat Team, according to police.

The crash occurred at about 2:13 p.m. Aug. 13 as a 53-foot tractor-trailer carrying 11 containers, each holding 330 gallons of diesel exhaust fluid, was traveling through the traffic circle.

Police said the truck was using the inside lane when it overturned onto its passenger side between state Route 12 and southbound Route 202/31 within the circle.

The containers were not breached, but police said they were leaking, prompting the hazmat response.

The tractor-trailer was uprighted, and all emergency units cleared the scene at about 5:52 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to police.
