MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office recently concluded its summer internship program, which provided participants with firsthand experience in court proceedings, legal research and various aspects of law enforcement.
During the program, interns observed court proceedings including a criminal trial, an oral argument before the Appellate Division and several arguments and motions in the Law Division.
Legal interns also conducted research and wrote on a variety of topics. Emily Curley, a legal student participating in the program, had the opportunity to write a brief and argue a case before a Superior Court judge in the Law Division under the supervision of a Morris County assistant prosecutor.
Interns heard presentations from leaders of divisions within the Prosecutor’s Office and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation team.
The group also toured the Morris County Correctional Facility and participated in training using the Firearms Training Simulator at the Morris County Public Safety Academy.
Interns also represented the Prosecutor’s Office at a community event in Washington Township.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll hosted a meet-and-greet with the interns to learn about their career goals and answer questions.
Carroll praised the interns for their work and participation in the program.
“The law enforcement profession needs to attract talented and dedicated new personnel to this exciting career. One of the best ways is to have our interns introduced to and actually participate in the daily operations of the MCPO. Their enthusiasm was obvious and I hope that we will see these young and energetic personnel consider a career in law enforcement at whatever job is most attractive to them. I also wish to thank our Chief of Staff Ernie Giampietro and Senior Assistant Prosecutor Michele Ghali for their leadership and inspiration in coordinating the intern program.”
