Magnitude 1.1 earthquake recorded Saturday in New Jersey

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — A small earthquake was recorded near Chester Saturday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The magnitude 1.1 earthquake occurred at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, about 6 kilometers, or 3.7 miles, southwest of Chester, according to USGS data.

The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 11.3 kilometers, or about 7 miles.

There were no reports submitted to the USGS of people feeling the earthquake.
