Rutgers dean of research charged with invasion of privacy over alleged ‘upskirt’ videos
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Middlesex County) — The dean of research at Rutgers University’s School of Environmental and Biological Sciences has been arrested and charged with invasion of privacy after allegedly recording “upskirt” videos, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
Joshua Kohut, 51, of Cranbury, was charged by complaint with fourth-degree invasion of privacy, Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and the Division of Criminal Justice announced.
“The defendant is alleged to have used his mobile phone to record ‘upskirt’ videos without his victim’s knowledge,” said Attorney General Davenport. “An invasion of privacy like this is not just disturbing, it is also a criminal act. We will prosecute accordingly.”
Authorities said a search warrant was executed Aug. 24, 2026, and devices belonging to Kohut were seized.
During a forensic preview, one of the seized devices was found to contain “upskirt” videos showing another individual’s undergarment-clad intimate parts, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
A fourth-degree charge carries a sentence of up to 18 months in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
