Home Depot rolls out AI-powered Magic Apron shopping assistant to stores nationwide
NEW JERSEY — The Home Depot has expanded its AI-powered Magic Apron shopping assistant to more than 2,000 stores nationwide, giving customers access to personalized product information, project guidance and in-store navigation while they shop.
The retailer said Magic Apron, which is already handling millions of questions each month, can provide information tailored to a customer’s selected Home Depot location. The technology is designed to complement assistance from store employees by providing customers with another way to find products and receive project guidance.
“Customers come to The Home Depot for expert guidance, and we know they want their shopping experience to be easy and efficient,” said Jordan Broggi, EVP of Interconnected Retail. “Magic Apron takes the best of our digital expertise and brings it into the physical store, creating a more connected shopping experience that helps customers find products, get project guidance and make decisions faster. Our associates remain at the center of the shopping experience, and Magic Apron gives customers another way to access guidance and support while they’re in our stores.”
Customers can use Magic Apron to ask product-specific questions, determine whether a product is appropriate for a project and receive recommendations for tools and supplies needed to complete a job.
For example, a customer can upload a photo of a bag of grass seed and ask what fertilizer is appropriate for the local climate or ask what supplies are needed to patch and paint a drywall repair.
The assistant accepts questions through text and voice-to-text, allows customers to upload photos and can interact in a shopper’s preferred language.
Magic Apron can also help customers navigate their selected store by providing product aisle and bay locations. Shoppers can check whether a product is available at their current store or other Home Depot locations.
According to the company, customers who participated in pilot testing said the features helped them locate products more quickly, increased confidence in purchasing decisions and provided a better understanding of product compatibility.
The expansion builds on Home Depot’s Store Mode feature, which launched in 2022 and includes barcode scanning, store navigation and other shopping information.
Magic Apron is now available at more than 2,000 Home Depot stores across the United States. Customers can access the assistant through The Home Depot mobile app or by scanning QR codes displayed on signs inside stores.
