Powerball, NFL launch new weekly lottery game featuring team logos and rolling jackpot

NEW JERSEY — Powerball and the NFL have teamed up to launch Powerball Xs & Os, a new weekly draw game that gives players a chance to win a rolling cash jackpot and NFL-related prizes and experiences.

Tickets for the new $5 game went on sale Tuesday, Sept. 8, with the first drawing scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 13. New Jersey is among 24 lottery jurisdictions participating in the game at launch.

Players select eight NFL team logos from all 32 teams. Eight winning team logos are randomly drawn each Sunday at 10 p.m. Eastern time.

Players who match all eight teams win the rolling cash jackpot. Matching fewer teams can result in other cash prizes.

The prize structure is:

  • Match 8 of 8 teams: Cash jackpot — odds of 1 in 10,518,300
  • Match 7 of 8 teams: $20,000 — odds of 1 in 54,782.81
  • Match 6 of 8 teams: $500 — odds of 1 in 1,361.06
  • Match 5 of 8 teams: $40 — odds of 1 in 92.80
  • Match 4 of 8 teams: $7 — odds of 1 in 14.14
  • Overall odds of winning a prize: 1 in 12.16

The odds are based on a $5 play and rounded to two decimal places. Lower-tier prizes may become pari-mutuel in some circumstances.

Despite the NFL theme, Powerball Xs & Os results are randomly drawn and are not based on or determined by the outcomes of NFL games. The game is a lottery game and not sports betting.

The launch also marks the first national promotional prize program in Powerball history. Players can enter eligible winning and non-winning Powerball Xs & Os tickets at PowerballOfficial.com to earn points that can be assigned as entries into promotional prize drawings.

There is no additional cost to participate in the promotional program beyond purchasing an eligible ticket.

Available promotional prizes include a trip to Super Bowl LXI, NFL Shop gift cards and other NFL experiences. Players can allocate more of their points toward the prize drawings they are most interested in entering, with additional prizes expected to be added regularly.

At launch, Powerball Xs & Os is available in Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont and West Virginia.

Additional U.S. lotteries plan to join the game later this year. Availability, purchase options, ticket entry methods and promotional participation may vary by jurisdiction.

Lottery games are intended for adults who meet applicable age, residency and eligibility requirements.
