Northern New Jersey county officials meet in Sussex County to discuss rising health insurance costs, other challenges
VERNON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — County officials from across northern New Jersey gathered in Sussex County for a regional meeting focused on shared government priorities, including rising health insurance costs and challenges facing county governments.
Sussex County hosted the New Jersey Association of Counties’ Northern New Jersey County Commissioners’ Association meeting at Red Tail Lodge in Vernon Township, bringing together commissioners and administrators from Warren, Morris, Hudson, Bergen and Passaic counties.
Sussex County Commissioner Director Jill Space, Commissioners Chris Carney, Alan Henderson and David Silverthorne, along with County Administrator Christina Marks, welcomed the visiting officials to the meeting, which was organized by the New Jersey Association of Counties (NJAC).
During the meeting, NJAC representatives provided updates on state and federal issues affecting county governments, along with information about upcoming association events. Representatives from each participating county also discussed current initiatives and challenges facing their communities.
One of the primary topics was the rising cost of health insurance, including expenses associated with New Jersey’s State Health Benefits Program. The increasing costs continue to present financial challenges for counties throughout the state, according to Sussex County officials.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for county leaders to exchange ideas and discuss approaches to issues affecting their respective governments.
Following the meeting, Sussex County Commissioner Chris Carney, who serves as the county’s liaison to NJAC, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation.
“It was a pleasure to have Sussex County host the New Jersey Association of Counties’ Northern New Jersey County Commissioners’ Association Meeting. The gathering provided a valuable opportunity to showcase all that Sussex County has to offer while bringing together county leaders to discuss the challenges facing our communities. By sharing ideas, experiences, and best practices, we can learn from one another and work collaboratively toward solutions that benefit counties across the Garden State. We look forward to continuing these important conversations at future NJAC meetings.”
The gathering brought together representatives from six northern New Jersey counties to discuss issues affecting county operations and share information about ongoing initiatives.
