Sussex County Community College Foundation raises more than $130,000 at annual gala
ANDOVER, N.J. (Sussex County) — The Sussex County Community College Foundation raised more than $130,000 during its annual Funding Their Future Gala, setting a new fundraising record to support student scholarships, academic programs and other college initiatives.
The event, held Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Perona Farms in Andover, brought together more than 270 guests, including college leaders, local business representatives, donors and community partners.
According to the college, preliminary fundraising totals exceeded $130,000, surpassing last year’s record of $100,200 and making this year’s gala the most successful in the event’s history.
The evening also recognized the Avondoglio family of Perona Farms and Project Self-Sufficiency for their longstanding contributions to Sussex County and their efforts to strengthen the local community.
The Avondoglio family has operated Perona Farms for generations while supporting local organizations and community initiatives. Project Self-Sufficiency has helped individuals and families throughout the region access education, resources and services designed to promote financial stability and independence.
“The College is so grateful for the partnership with the Avondoglio Family and Project Self-Sufficiency. It goes beyond commitment; it’s an investment in the future of Sussex County,” noted Dr. Cory Homer, President of SCCC.
The Funding Their Future Gala is one of the foundation’s signature fundraising events, bringing together supporters who contribute to scholarships and programs that help students pursue higher education.
For the 2026-27 academic year, the SCCC Foundation awarded $180,000 through 146 scholarships to 150 students, according to the college. The financial assistance helps cover educational expenses for recent high school graduates, working adults returning to school and students preparing for new careers.
College officials said the scholarships also benefit the broader community by helping students complete their education and enter the local workforce with the skills needed by businesses and organizations throughout Sussex County.
“The generosity of our sponsors, friends, and local businesses makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our students while building a stronger workforce for Sussex County,” noted Stan Kula, Executive Director of the SCCC Foundation.
In addition to scholarships, proceeds from the gala support academic programs, campus improvements and other college priorities intended to enhance students’ educational experiences.
The foundation said these contributions help provide students with access to resources, facilities and hands-on learning opportunities while supporting the college’s mission of expanding educational opportunities throughout Sussex County.
