Atlantic Health System welcomes new trustees

MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County) – Atlantic Health has recent additions to its Board of Trustees.

The integrated care delivery system, which cares for a region of 6.2 million people in 12 counties across New Jersey and Pennsylvania, welcomed Jaynee LaVecchia, Dr. Mai Pham, and Michael Ranger.

Jaynee LaVecchia, currently a partner at the law firm of McCarter & English, served for more than 21 years on the New Jersey Supreme Court, making her the longest-serving female justice in the State’s history. As associate justice, she presided over hundreds of complex cases on issues impacting New Jersey’s most prominent industries. From 1998 to 2000, LaVecchia served as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance, where saw oversaw thousands of banks, insurers, and credit unions.

She previously served as Deputy Chief Counsel for Governor Thomas Kean, Chief Administrative Law Judge in the State’s Office of Administrative Law, and as Director of the Division of Law within the Department of Law and Public Safety. Born in Paterson, LaVecchia is a graduate of Douglass College and Rutgers School of Law – Newark. She is a recipient of the Medal of Honor from the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, a member of the Rutgers University Hall of Distinguished Alumni, and has been honored with the Rutgers Law School Distinguished Alumni Award and the New Jersey Women of Achievement Award.

Hoangmai (Mai) H. Pham, MD, MPH is President of the Institute for Exceptional Care, a non-profit dedicated to making healthcare better for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A general internist and health policy leader, Dr. Pham formerly served as Vice President, Provider Alignment Solutions at Anthem (now Elevance), the country’s second largest health insurer. She was previously Chief Innovation Officer at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, where she served as architect of Medicare’s primary care and accountable care organization programs. She is a trustee of the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care and serves on the National Advisory Council for the Agency on Healthcare Research and Quality.

She has published widely on the intersection of provider payment policy and health disparities, care coordination, and quality performance. An Adjunct Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Pham holds an A.B. from Harvard University, M.D. from Temple University, and M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins University.

Michael W. Ranger was appointed CEO of Covanta Holding Corporation (NYSE: CVA), a world leader in sustainable materials management and energy solutions, in 2020. He subsequently led the organization through the pandemic and a successful acquisition by EQT Infrastructure. Co-founder of the private equity firm, Diamond Castle Holdings, Ranger was previously group head of Global Energy & Power at DLJ. He is the lead director for the board of directors at Consolidated Edison, Inc. Ranger presently serves as board chair of his alma mater, St. Lawrence University.

He formerly served as board chair of The Seeing Eye and board president of the Morristown-Beard School. Ranger is a board member of LifeCamp, Inc., a nonprofit providing enriching summer camp experiences for young Newark residents.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher.
