Aaron D. Tomasini sworn in as Chief Sheriff’s Officer in Morris County
MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — Sheriff James M. Gannon officially swore in Aaron D. Tomasini as the new Chief Sheriff’s Officer for the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Law Enforcement during a ceremony held Monday morning in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room at the Morris County Superior Courthouse complex.
Chief Tomasini began his career with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office in July 2005 after graduating from the Morris County Basic Police Academy Class #66. He briefly served in the Protective Services Division before joining the K-9 Unit, where he spent the majority of his career. Tomasini has served as a K-9 handler, trainer, bomb technician, and tactical operator with the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team, working closely with K-9 partners including Jax, Hydro, Sig, Kiara, and Po.
Throughout his career, Tomasini has earned numerous certifications, including K-9 Trainer through the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, New Jersey State Police, and United States Police Canine Association, as well as certifications as a firearms and rifle instructor, search and rescue coordinator, TASER Master Instructor, FBI-trained sniper, and FBI-certified Tactical Bomb Technician.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Tomasini is a 23-year veteran of the New Jersey Army National Guard, currently serving as a Major and Infantry Branch Chief for the Observer Coach/Trainer Group “OPS Group Devil.” He has completed extensive military training, including Ranger School and Command and General Staff College.
Tomasini holds an associate degree in criminal justice from County College of Morris, dual bachelor’s degrees in psychology and sociology, a master’s in management, an MBA with a focus in human resources, and an Ed.D. in organizational leadership. He is a member of several international honor societies and volunteers with community organizations.
Sheriff Gannon praised Tomasini’s appointment, stating, “The County of Morris is fortunate to have a leader like Aaron, whose integrity, expertise, and leadership skills are certain to propel the Morris County Sheriff’s Office to new heights.”
During his remarks, Chief Tomasini emphasized his commitment to supporting the Sheriff’s Office personnel and building strong partnerships with law enforcement and community stakeholders. “One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that words mean little without action,” he said. “I pledge my full support to you—my time, my energy, and my focus, to meet your expectations and help you thrive.”
He concluded by highlighting the importance of collaboration in leadership. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together,” he said, quoting an African proverb.
Sheriff Gannon closed the ceremony by thanking those in attendance and wishing Chief Tomasini success in his new role.
