ADA accessible fitness pavilion planned for Deer Path Park

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – The Commissioner Board was recently updated by the Director of Parks and Recreation, Dan Bush about the construction of the new ADA fitness pavilion, that is planned for Deer Path Park (DPP).

The pavilion is part of phase two of a project that began last summer, with the installation of the new all-inclusive playground at DPP, along with numerous other upgrades to the flagship county park.

Commissioner Zach Rich, who served as Director of the Board last year when the all-inclusive playground was opened said, “I am happy to see the Board building upon last year’s success at Deer Path Park. It is essential that we continue to make investments in the county park system, including expanding ADA access to recreational areas for visitors of all abilities. We are fortunate to live in Hunterdon County with its beautiful open space and farmland and I am proud of tonight’s latest accomplishment.”

The ADA compatible pavilion will feature equipment that is adaptable for everyone to use and includes a sit-up bench, accessible triceps press, shoulder press, and hand cycle. Each piece of equipment will include signage with safety guidelines, exercise instructions, and age limit notifications for those without adult supervision.

The fitness pavilion will complement the existing all-inclusive ADA compatible playground, fitness trails, and walking paths at Deer Path Park.

“Deer Path Park has served as one of our most popular parks and is home to our annual summer concert series and other recreational activities. Adding this fitness pavilion will allow for more Hunterdon County residents to be able to enjoy our park system,” Rich said.

Construction for the fitness pavilion will be completed by Ben Schaffer Recreation Contractors for the total cost of $143,206.65 and offset with a $68,000 grant through the DCA NJ Department of Community Affairs.
