Alleged shoplifter gives fake name to police in Sussex County

FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man who allegedly shoplifted from a Walmart tried to give police a fake name when he got caught.

Christopher Kraus, 49, of Hamburg, was arrested on July 18 following a shoplifting complaint at Walmart in Franklin Borough, police said.

During the investigation, Kraus provided officers with a false name and other misleading information in an attempt to conceal his identity, police said.

Once Kraus was properly identified, it was discovered that he had multiple outstanding warrants, including a no-bail warrant from the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department, police said.

Kraus was charged with fourth-degree shoplifting, hindering apprehension, and fourth-degree obstruction. He was then lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a court appearance, police said.
